What Is a Trade Show Grant?
A trade show grant is a form of financial assistance provided to small businesses to support their participation in international trade shows and related export activities. In the United States, these grants are primarily offered through the State Trade Expansion Program (STEP), administered by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).
What is STEP?
The STEP program awards funds to U.S. states and territories, which in turn distribute grants to eligible small businesses. These grants help businesses overcome barriers to exporting by covering costs associated with:
Participating in foreign trade missions and trade shows
Designing international marketing products and campaigns
Supporting website globalization and e-commerce capabilities
Paying for subscriptions to services provided by the U.S. Department of Commerce and other federal agencies
Attending export training workshops
